A Nelson Cruz solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning was the difference as Baltimore beat the Boston Red Sox on opening day 2-1.Despite the loss, Sox starter Jon Lester pitched a solid game striking out 8 over 7 innings.

Boston certainly had chances to score but went 0-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 men on base. The only run came from new centerfielder Grady Sizemore who went 2-4 on the day with a solo homerun in the top of the 4th inning. Check out his postgame comments below.

The series will take a break on Tuesday while the Sox visit President Obama at the White House in recognition of their World Series win last season. When teams take the field on Wednesday it will be John Lackey facing Ubaldo Jiminez.
