The Chicago Cubs took the first game of the four game series with the Washington Nationals on Thursday by a score of 5-2 in the battle of two top teams in the MLB.

Kyle Hendricks won the contest (2-2) going six strong innings, allowing just two hits and two walks.  The bullpen of the Cubs also was very good outside of a small blow up by Travis Wood in the ninth inning.  Ben Zobrist hit his third home run of the season and led the Cubs with four runs batted in on two hits.

Jayson Werth had two RBIs in the losing effort, while the reigning MVP in the National League had one hit in his lone at bat and walked three times.

Game two of the series gets underway this afternoon at 2:20 p.m. with Max Scherzer facing John Lackey.
