Former Red Sox star Johnny Damon landed in Bangor with a message for his fans in Maine in advance of his Thursday night appearance at the Gracie Theatre.

"I know people further north east kind of despise the fact I went over to the Evil Empire," Damon said, referencing his 2005 decision to leave the Red Sox for the New York Yankees. "But you know, at the end of the day I'm just a baseball player, and I feel like I played the game the right way and got out of the game unscathed."

At the news conference, Damon also talked about being a father of seven children and his life after baseball.

Damon will talk all things baseball -- including the Boston's historic 2004 World Series win -- (and more) during tonight's "Allenfarm Fence Company's An Evening with Johnny Damon " at the Gracie Theatre at Husson College in Bangor. The show starts at 7 p.m.
