Defending Champions George Stevens Eliminate Calais

The defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles started their quarterfinal game with 11-0 run and didn't look back, eliminating the Calais Blue Devils in a quarterfinal contest in Bangor.

When the buzzer sounded, the No. 3 Eagles came away with a 73-37 win over the No. 11-seed Blue Devils at the Cross Insurance Center.

Sophomore Andrew Szwez led the Eagles (16-3) with 21 points. Isac Wardwell had 18 points. Senior Reece Dannenberg added 11 points, and Percy Zentz finished with eight points.

The expectations are high for GSA, the three-time Class C state champions. It's a fact not lost on the players.

"We definitely think about it, but we're not afraid of any team," Szwez said after the game.

Junior Dawson Critchley led Calais with 17 points. Calais' leading scorer Blake Collins fouled out of the game with 5:43 left in the fourth quarter with 10 points.

Calais finishes the season at 7-13.
