In the seventh inning with the game tied 1-1, Jacoby Ellsbury came back to haunt the Red Sox by drilling a solo home run of Eduardo Rodriguez. The run stood up and the Yankees beat the Sox 2-1, taking two of the three games in the series.

Just for added measure, another former Sox player,  Andrew Miller pitched the ninth inning to record his 24th save in 24 opportunities.

Rodriguez deserved a better fate. He pitched well for seven innings - 2 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks while striking out 5. He threw 103 pitches.

The Sox problem was lack of offense - just six hits off four different Yankee pitchers.

Boston is 48-61, 14 games behind the Yanks in the AL East.
