The Husson Eagles had their season come to a sudden end Friday night, losing 81-75 to Eastern Connecticut State in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. The Eagles finish the season at 26-3.

The NCAA playoff game was played in Plattsburgh, New York as part of a 4-team field.

Things looked good for coach Warren Caruso and his Eagles, a 41-36 lead at the half. Mike Gonzalez scored 11 points and Aaron Willis added 10 in the first half. E.Conn State had one of its big guns, Mike Garrow on the bench with foul trouble and just one point scored.

But the second half was a different story.

Husson scored just 6 points in the first eight minutes and the Warriors took the lead at 48-47. E.Conn State would eventually take a 12 point lead on the Eagles with five minutes to play.

Husson mounted a comeback. With 1:04 to go, Corey Wood had a steal and a layup to bring the Eagles within one at 72-71. But Husson would never get closer.

The Warriors hit free throws down the stretch to win it 81-75.

Husson again had a balanced scoring attack, led by Brook Spaulding and Aaron Willis with 15 each.

E.Conn State was led by Trachone Preston with 23 and Mike Garrow with 20 (19 in second half).

Husson completes the season with a 26-3 record. The Warriors play a second round NCAA game against either Plattsburgh St or MIT.
