Eagles Tip Blue Devils 52-50

The Ellsworth Lady Eagles have lost 3 games this season by 4 points or less. Monday, January 13th, it was their turn to win a close game, as they tipped the Calais Lady Blue Devils 52-50 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth. The win avenged their loss in Calais on December 16th when they lost in Calais 60-56.

Calais led at the end of the 1st Quarter 14-13, and 28-22 at the end of the 1st Half. Ellsworth outscored Calais in the 3rd Quarter 12-9, to crawl within 4 points as they trailed at the end of the 3rd Quarter 35-31. Ellsworth continued to outscore Calais in the 4th and final quarter, 18-13 to secure the win 52-50.

Maddie Card hit a 3-pointer with under a minute left to give Ellsworth the lead. Maddie Card ended the game with 10 points including 2 3-pointers. Ellsworth was led by Emily Berry, who had 17 points including a 3 -pointer and Morgan Card had 11 points including a 3-pointer. Ellsworth went 6-12 from the free throw line.

Calais was led by Maddy McVicar who had a game high 18 points, including 2 3-pointers. Olivia Smith had 10 points with 1 3-pointer. Malorie Black and Kaylee Johnson each added a 3-pointer for Calais. Calais was 17-32 from the free throw line.

With the victory, Ellsworth is now 5-6 on the season and jumped from 13th to 9th place in the Heal Points as of January 13th. Ellsworth travels to Old Town, Tuesday, January 14th to play the Old Town Coyotes. Calais falls to 6-2 on the season, and plays at Narraguagus on Tuesday, January 14th.
