The Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, for the first time, featured high school tournament action, hosting a round of the Class B Eastern Maine quarterfinals on Friday.

Old Town Coyotes Upset MDI Trojans, Advance to Semi-Finals [BOYS]

The No. 6 Old Town Coyotes (13-5) handed the  No. 3 seed MDI Trojans an early-round loss Friday night in the first-ever tournament game played at the Cross Center.

Old Town’s Eric Hoogterb had 20 points as the Coyotes held off a third-period push from the Trojans to come away with a 57-44 win.

Old Town came into the tournament on a high note, earning a birth after a convincing win over the Waterville Purple Panthers Wednesday night.

This was the third time MDI and Old Town met this season. The Trojans beat the Coyotes 51-45 to start the season and again in January, 60-55.

Another Upset: Ellsworth Eagles Hold Off Camden Hills Windjammers [BOYS]

Harmon (Walter Churchill)

The Ellsworth Eagles added another upset Friday night after holding off the No. 2 Camden Hills Windjammers, 71-62.

The Eagles were able to hit enough free throws in the last minute, helping to put the game out of reach. Freshman Bryce Harmon was 14 of 15 from the line for the night, finishing with 20 points.

“I was just focusing on the rim, and they went in,” Harmon told the Ticket’s Dale Duff after the game.

Ellsworth entered the tournament after ending the repeat hopes of the defending Class B Eastern Maine champion Medomak Valley Panthers in a Tuesday prelim.

MDI Trojans Oust Ellsworth Eagles [GIRLS]

In the final game of the night, the No. 3 seed MDI Trojans held on to their high seed, outpacing the Ellsworth Eagles in a 54 to 40 contest.

MDI’s Hannah Shaw led her team with 16 points. She was named the player of the game.

Ellsworth had earned a birth to the tournament after besting Oceanside 50-47 Tuesday night to advance to the Cross Center.
