Longtime Red Sox reporter Gordon Edes is leaving his post at ESPNBoston.com to be the Sox team historian and a communications advisor.

In other words, after covering the Sox for nearly two decades, Edes is joining the team and its marketing arm, Fenway Sports Group.

He has been a reporter for 35 years and covered the Sox since 1996, first for the Boston Globe and then for ESPNBoston.

For years, Dick Bresciani was team historian but passed away last year.

Edes will report directly to John Henry, Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president MIke Gordon.
