If the upcoming season turns out to be the last one in a Red Sox uniform for Jacoby Ellsbury, at least he will leave Boston with a $9-million dollar salary.

That's the figure the team and Ellsbury have agreed on for this season. The move avoids a salary arbitration battle.

The centerfielder will be a free agent at the after this 2013 season and with many baseball experts think Ellsbury's agent Scott Boras will take his client shopping to the highest bidder, no matter the team.

The $9-million salary for this year is an increase of close to a million despite having an injury plagued 2012.
