Ellsworth Gets Revenge 5-2
The Ellsworth Eagles came into Tuesday night's Quarterfinal with Foxcroft Academy with a record of 13-0-1 with their lone tie coming at the hands of the Ponies 1-1 on October 14th. They had a chip on their shoulder, and came out on fire, controlling the possession and dominating the game.
But, it was Foxcroft Academy that scored the first goal of the night with 10:58 played. Antonio Ayala scored with an assist from Fernando Caceres, and the crowd at Del Luce Stadium were stunned, as Foxcroft Academy led 1-0.
Ellsworth was able to tie the score with 19:02 played, as Jack Weeks headed in a corner from Anthony Gardner.
The score was tied at the end of the 1st Half 1-1, but Ellsworth had out shot Foxcroft Academy 18-1, and had take 11 corners to 0 for Foxcroft Academy.
Ellsworth's Conor Maguire scored off of a direct kick with 10:08 played in the 2nd half (50:08) to make it 2-1 Ellsworth.
Conor Maguire netted his 2nd goal minutes later, with 14:07 played in the 2nd half (54:07), as he headed the ball in after Lukas Firestone's flipthrow went into the goal mouth. That made the score 3-1 Ellsworth.
It was 4-1 10 minutes later, as Jack Weeks scored his 2nd goal of the night with 24:35 gone in the 2nd half (64:35)
Foxcroft Academy's Nick Boyd scored off of a direct kick to make the score 4-2 with 31:19 gone in the 2nd half. (71:19).
Ellsworth rounded out the scoring as junior midfielder Matt Curtis scored off of a direct kick from junior Kyle Golding with 33:07 gone in the 2nd half (73:07).
Ellsworth ended up with 27 shots on goal, while Foxcroft Academy had 5 shots on goal. Ellsworth had 16 corners, while the Ponies had 0.
Ellsworth's Bruce St. Peter played in goal for the 1st Half, and Nick Bagley played in goal for the 2nd Half. Logan Butera was in goal for Foxcroft Academy.
Ellsworth is now 14-0-1 and will play #12 Medomak Valley who upset Erskine Academy 3-1 in the Eastern Maine Class B Semifinals in a date and time to be determined.
