Ellsworth Girls 42 Sumner 13
The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team celebrated senior night with a resounding 42-13 victory over Sumner Memorial High School on Friday, February 6th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium. With the victory, Ellsworth finishes the regular season with a 11-7 record, and look to be hosting a prelim game on Tuesday, February 10th, depending upon the final Heal Point Standings which will be finalized Saturday night, February 7th. As it stands now, Ellsworth will finish 8th and host the Gardiner Tigers, the 9th place team. The Ellsworth prelim game will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
Sumner led 3-2 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Jordan Merchant had 2 of Sumner's points while Taylor Davis had the other. For Ellsworth, Emily Berry scored their lone points.
In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth's offense got untracked, as they led 22-5 at the half. Hailee Langley had 7 points, Samantha Mason had 4 points, Maddie Card, Caitlin Bean and Emily Berry each had 3 points for Ellsworth. Jordan Merchants had Sumner's lone points.
At the end of the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth led 27-11. Berry and Bean each had 2 points for Ellsworth, while Mason had 1 point. For Sumner, Savanna Turner, Taylor Davis and Jordan Merchants each had 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Sumner 15-2 Langley had 4 points, Berry 3 points and Kacie Omlor, Olivia King, Callie Hammer each had 2 points, while Katelyn Bagley and Hannah Sargent each had 1 point for Ellsworth. Taylor Davis had Sumner's lone 2 points.
Ellsworth was led by seniors Hailee Langley with 11 points and Emily Berry with 10 points. The Eagles were 8-22 from the free throw line.
Sumner was led by Jordan Merchants with 6 points while Taylor Davis had 5 points. Sumner was 1-11 from the free throw line.
Sumner now 8-9 has 1 game remaining, against Washington Academy on Saturday afternoon, February 7th at 2:30 PM. The winner of the game will finish in 10th place, while the loser will have the final Class C East playoff spot, in 12th place.
