Ellsworth's Dick Scott stepped in and became manager of the New York Mets yesterday after Terry Collins was taken to the hospital about 30 minutes before the game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Collins, who at 67 is the oldest manager in the majors, felt sick and was checked out by trainers and then was taken to the hospital for precautionary tests.

The Mets lost the game 5-3.

Scott is in his first year as bench coach after several years as player personnel director.

Scott signed with the NY Yankees right out of Ellsworth High School. He played in the majors with the Oakland A's. He's been a minor league manager. farm director and player personnel manager over the years.
