Fall Sports Season Underway
With a feel of fall returning to the early morning air, it only makes sense that the high school sports season gets underway.Monday marked the first day that fall sports teams could begin practices and that's what happened all around the state. Mark Hackett's Bangor football team took the field looking to improve on a season that saw them enter last year's playoffs as the #4 seed. The Rams who lost in the semifinals will have a new quarterback this season as Jeffrey Lewis takes over for the graduated Xavier Lewis.
Brewer football starts the 2014 campaign with a new head coach. Nick Arthers who spent the last two seasons rebuilding the Old Town football program will now try to do the same with the Witches. Arthers, who will also teach at the school has a young squad with an experienced quarterback in Logan Rogerson.
Speaking of new coaches, Billy Shannon takes over the Bangor boys program replacing David Patterson who passed away over the summer, and Dave Hamel becomes the new Brewer girls head coach.
A couple of local teams begin the season looking to continue impressive championship streaks as the Bangor girls look for their 5th straight Eastern Maine championship, while the Bangor Christian boys are playing for their 6th straight state championship.
