Former UMaine football coach and now Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz gets a six-year contract extension and a raise in pay to $4.5 million a year through 2026.

At 61-years-old, it virtually guarantees Ferentz will retire the Hawkeyes coach.

Ferentz was head coach at UMaine from 1990-1992 (record: 12-21). He left Orono to join the coaching staff of the NFL's Cleveland Browns under head coach Bill Belichick.

He took over Iowa in 1999 and has been there ever since.

Last year Ferentz led the Hawkeyes to 12-2 record and Iowa opened this season with a win over Miami(Ohio).
