Today is the last day to apply for a Maine moose hunting permit!

You can do so online at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's website, you have until 11:59PM tonight!  The application fee for Maine residents is $15.

Winners of the moose lottery will be announced on June 14th during a big ceremony at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The drawing will start at 3pm and continue until all 3,095 names are announced.

The number of permits that will be awarded this year will be 25% less than what was originally projected.  Not only did we experience a horrible long winter but so did the moose.  Winter ticks attacked the big beasts in record numbers and unfortunately according to studies done by the state many moose did not survive.

Maine's moose hunting season runs from September 22nd through November 29th, depending on which Wildlife Management District you'll be hunting in.
