Five area athletes have been nominated for First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week.

This week's nominees are Seth Bussell and Tucker Sharples, both of MCI, Matt Spooner of Foxcroft Academy, Carter Tolmasoff of Bucksport and Alex Costedio of Nokomis.

Here's how each athlete performed over the weekend

Seth Bussell of MCI helped lead the Huskies past the Hermon Hawks on Friday, rushing for 112 yards in MCI's 29-25 triumph at the Alumni Field Athletic Complex in Pittsfield. Bussell scored on a 2-yard run in the second half as MCI overcame an early 12-point deficit to improve to 3-1.

MCI's Tucker Sharples also was impressive running the ball for the Huskies on Friday night. Sharples gained 127 yards on the ground. His 13-yard touchdown and 2-point conversion gave MCI a 15-12 lead. Sharples added a 2-yard score with 2:56 remaining in the game.

Alex Costedio of Nokomis rushed for 98 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Warriors' 26-21 win against the Waterville Purple Panthers on Saturday. Costedio scored on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter and a 2-yard run in the third. He scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 9-yard reception with 3:41 remaining in the game.

Foxcroft Academy quarterback Matt Spooner rushed for a game-high 141 yards in the Ponies' 21-20 victory over Bucksport on Friday night at Carmichael Field. Spooner's night included a 35-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. With the win, the defending LTC champion Ponies improved to 4-0.

Carter Tolmasoff of Bucksport rushed for a team-high 133 yards in Friday's loss against the Ponies. Tolmasoff scored on a 60-yard run with 47 seconds left in the opening quarter. He also caught a pass from Brady Findlay to add a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
