Maine's Ryan Flaherty has been told by Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter that he has made the opening day roster when the Birds play the Red Sox Monday afternoon. Flaherty is the son of USM longtime coach Ed Flaherty and it will be his third time on the opening day roster. He is likely to play alot of third base until Manny Machado gets healthy.

Now the question is, will there be another Maine connection in the Birds infield Monday afternoon against the Sox. Jonathan Schoop is trying to earn the second base job in Birdland. As a 16-year-old kid he played for the Senior League World Series team from Curacao(2008) that played at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. He is considered Baltimore's top position prospect.
