Jim Montgomery is the Denver University hockey coach now, but as he leaves the junior hockey ranks the former Black Bear player has been named USHL General Manager of the Year - for the second time in three years.

Montgomery was coach and GM of the Dubuque Fighting Saints. His junior league team went 45-11-8 and a league best 98 points. He was the architect of the club's best season ever.

Montgomery was a big part of UMaine's first national championship team in 1992. He had expressed some interest taking over the Black Bear program but wound up taking the head coaching job at Denver several weeks ago.

Maine is expected to name its replacement for Tim Whitehead next week.
