Former UMaine running back Montell Owens has been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars after seven seasons. Owens will leave as the team's alltime special teams tackler (118).

Owens played in 104 NFL games for the Jags after being signed out of UMaine as an undrafted free agent. Owens made two Pro Bowl teams as a special teams player.

The Jaguars are trying to get younger and the Owens move is just the latest one to take the team in that direction. They have already released CB Rashean Mathis and FB Greg Jones.

Owens came to UMaine after playing his high school football in Massachusetts.
