Former University of Maine football players are getting ready for the 2016 NFL season as franchises begin training camps this week.


Bates has been practicing with the Colts since Tuesday as rookies and veterans both reported back to action.  The former defensive lineman will likely be battling for a spot in the linebacker core with the likes of Robert Mathis, Erik Walden, and Trent Cole.

Johnson will be battling for a spot on the Philadelphia offensive line that is tasked in protecting Sam Bradford and top selection Carson Wentz.  He has been strength training in New York in preparations for his camp, which opened up for rookies on Sunday.  Video of his training from former Bangor broadcaster Prescott Rossi of WROC-TV in Rochester.

Mike Kozlakowski will also be trying to move on to professional ranks this off-season.  He was previously given a tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the NFL Draft.
