Four people were taken to the hospital after their Jeep crashed into some woods. The vehicle was fleeing police at the time of the accident.

Bangor Police Sergeant Tim Cotton says an officer tried to stop the Jeep Grand Cherokee at around 10:45 Thursday evening on the Finson Road. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the driver sped off.

A short time later, the driver lost control of the Jeep and went off the road into a wooded area near Pray's Trailer Park. Four people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and they were all taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. There's no word on the extent of their injuries.

The driver, 21-year-old James Cook of Belfast, is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, eluding a police officer, criminal speeding, operating a motor vehicle after suspension of driver's license, and violation of Bail.

The crash remains under investigation by the Maine State Police.
