Tourney 2018 Edition: Athlete Of The Week Nominees Announced [VOTE]
Voting is underway to determine the McDonald's High School Athlete of the week. All four of this week's nominees play for teams that won on Championship Saturday to advance to the state finals in high school basketball.
Drew Hayward, junior guard at Woodland Junior-Senior High School, averaged 15 points per game in his team’s three tournament wins. The 5-foot-10 Hayward played a key role for his team as the Dragons knocked off Bangor Christian, Schenck and Jonesport-Beals on their way to a class D regional title.
Kolleen Bouchard, senior guard for the Houlton Shiretowners, averaged 24.3 points over three tournament games. Her 27-point performance in Houlton's 3-point overtime win against Dexter in the regional finals pushed her past the 2,000-point plateau for her career. Bouchard also was nominated for Miss Maine Basketball honors last week.
Taylor Schildroth, a 2018 Mr. Maine Basketball nominee from George Stevens Academy, averaged 27.3 points during the tournament last week. He scored a game-high 29 points in the Eagles' win over Fort Fairfield on Championship Saturday.
Haley Ward, a senior at Winslow High School, scored 15.3 points per game last week as the class B Raiders defeated Mount Desert Island, John Bapst and Presque Isle. Winslow will take on Lake Region in Friday's state championship game at the Cross Insurance Center.
