The University of Maine football team got key contributions from a pair of true freshmen to help beat Rhode Island 20-14 for their third win of the season.Trailing by two points with 7:14 to play, freshman quarterback Drew Belcher led the offense on a 70 yard drive for the winning score. Belcher had a solid all-around day completing 15 of 25 passes for 151 yards, and ran for another 111 yards. Freshman running back Nigel Beckford rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown. The big play of the game came on the winning drive when the Bears were facing a 3rd and 16 situation that resulted in a 46 yard pass from Belcher to Damarr Aultman. A few plays later redshirt freshman Jerick Fedrick scored the go ahead touchdown.

The defense only allowed Rhode Island just over 17 minutes of possession time and 264 total yards. Redshirt freshman linebacker Zachary Hume led the team with 7 tackles while Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga added 6.

The Bears are now 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the CAA with a game against Richmond coming up next Saturday at Alfond Stadium.
