UMaine goalie Matt Morris made a career-high 50 saves Friday night. It was that 51st shot that was the killer. Providence College  senior Nick Saracino beat Morris 2:13 into overtime to give the Friars a 1-0 win.

The heartbreaking loss leaves Maine 4-9-2 in Hockey East and 7-16-6 overall.

The Providence, ranked #6 in the national polls, improves to 9-3-3 and 18-5-4.

While Morris stood on his head for 50 saves, Friars goalie Nick Ellis had to make just 19.

Both teams were 0-for-2 on the powerplay.

The goal for Saracino was his ninth of the season.

The Bears and Friars play game two of the weekend series at Alfond Arena tonight at 7pm.
