Providence College scored a goal with just 3:10 left in the game and beat UMaine 4-3 in the first game of their best-of-three Hockey East playoff series.

Josh Wilkins scored the game winner for the Friars, who are now 21-10-4. The Black Bears fall to 18-15-4.

Maine jumped to an early 2-0 lead, getting two goals from Tim Doherty in the first eight minutes.

Both teams scored powerplay goals in the second period, leading to the 3-3 going into the third period.

Maine goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped 37 shots. Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey made 21.
