The UMaine hockey season is over. It ends with a 4-2 Saturday night loss to Providence and the two game sweep of the quarterfinal series. The Bears finish the year with a record of 16-15-4.

Maine jumped on the Friars in the first ten minutes of the game and when defenseman Ben Hutton scored his school record 15th goal the Bears had an early lead.

But the Friars scored the next four goals, two in the first and two in the second to lead 4-1 after two periods.

Steven Swavely scored early in the third period to pull the Bears to a 4-2 deficit. But that was the end of the scoring on the night.

Jon Gillies made 36 saves in net for Providence.

Martin Ouellette and Dan Sullivan combined to stop 26 shots for Maine.

NOTE: All three other Hockey East Quarterfinal series go to a winner-take-all game three today at 4:30pm.
