When UMaine hockey and other Hockey East teams play in the upcoming Frozen Fenway games you may notice a new marking on the ice - a red colored warning track line near the boards called "The Look-Up Line".

The trade marked line was developed by the Thomas E. Smith Foundation and the intent of the red warning line is to improve safety for hockey players.

The red line is about 2 1/2 feet from the boards, all around the ice surface. The idea is to warn players of a couple of things...

1) To keep their heads up to help prevent head and neck injuries

2) To not body check (contact) the opposing player from behind

Hockey East, the NCAA Rules Committee and the Fenway Sports Group all agreed to launch this new warning line at upcoming games at Fenway Park.

The Maine Black Bears take on BU at Fenway on January 11th.
