It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win, and the MDI Trojan Girls advanced to the Eastern Maine Class B Girl’s Semifinals on Wednesday, February 20th at 3:30 where they will take on the Presque Isle Wildcats who defeated Ellsworth Saturday afternoon. Presque Isle handed MDI their lone two losses in the 2012-2013 season.

MDI led 14-5 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Hannah Shaw had 6 points in the quarter for MDI and Molly Carroll hit a 2 pointer at the buzzer from the 3-point line. Winslow was led by Devin Fitzgibbons with 3, a 3 pointer.

It was 21-13 at the half. Alyssa Wood had 4 points in the quarter for Winslow, including a 3 pointer. Emily Lewis had 3 points in the quarter for MDI. Both teams had difficulty from the free throw line in the first half, as Winslow was 1-6 and MDI was 3-8.

In the 3rd Quarter, Winslow outscored MDI 8 to 4. MDI only scored one field goal in the quarter, that by Molly Carroll. Delaney Wood scored 4 points in the quarter for Winslow.

In the 4th Quarter, Winslow was trailing by 3 points for much of the quarter, and they were content to allow MDI to hold onto the ball. Devin Fitgibbons scored 8 points of her game high 13 in the 4th quarter, hitting 2 3-pointers. But to MDI’s credit, they made enough free throws when it counted going 9-14 from the free throw line when Winslow was forced to foul, and came away with the victory.

MDI was led by Molly Carroll with 12 points. Carroll went 4-6 from the line including 3-4 in the 4th Quarter. Emily Lewis had 9 points for the Trojans. Winslow was led by Fitzgibbons with 13 points, including 3 3 pointers.

MDI improves to 17-2 on the season, while Winslow ends their season at 7-13. Presque Isle defeated MDI 55-46 in Presque Isle in December and in Bar Harbor 54-40 in January. Those were the closest margins of victory that Presque Isle experienced all season long. The game Wednesday at 3:35 will be heard on WDEA AM 1370 as well as on WDEA Internet Radio.

Patriots QB Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bundchen celebrated the birth of their second child Wednesday.

Vivian Lake Brady was born at the couple’s home on the Back Bay with Gisele making the announcement on her Facebook page.

Tom and Gi’s son Benjamin will turn 3 on Saturday.
