Despite speculation that he would not step on the field for their first exhibition game, quarterback Tom Brady got the start for the Patriots in a 22-11 loss to the Packers.Brady came onto the field for New England's first possession to a loud aplause which resulted in a three and out series. He followed that up with 4 plays on the second possession which brought an end to his night after completing 1 of 4 passes.

Upon Brady's departure the reigns were turned over to Jimmy Garoppolo who was surrounded by a cast of players fighting for spots on the team rather than the names that will be in the starting line-up when the season starts. Garoppolo went 20 for 30 for 159 yards and an interception and no touchdowns while getting sacked 7 times.

The Pats gt the early lead when Jonas Gray ran 55 yards for a touchdown. Gray who spent most of last year in Coach Bill Belichick's doghouse was one of the bright spots for the team as he ran for 74 yards on 7 carries.

Linebacker Jonathan Freeney led the defense with 9 tackles while rookie defensive back Jordan Richards added 5.

The Patriots will hit the road for next weeks preseason game as they go south to play the New Orleans Saints.
