South Portland's Jon Gillies has gone from goalie of the college hockey national champions to  shutout winning goalie in his pro debut.

Gillies began is pro career over the weekend with the brand new AHL team, the Stockton Heat(California) and he stopped all 19 shots he saw in a 7-0 win over Rockford in the first game in franchise history.

Gillies was a 3rd round draft pick of the NHL's Calgary Flames and decided to pass up his senior year at Providence shortly after the Friars claimed the NCAA title in April.

Stockton is part of the new Pacific Division of the AHL, the triple-A of the NHL.
