Former basketball player Chandler Guerrette and current football player John Smith have been named Husson University Athletes of the Year, better known as the Clara Swan and Del Merrill Athletes of the Year.

Both student-athletes will be honored during upcoming Hall of Fame ceremonies on December 1st.

The awards are named in honor of Clara Swan, a longtime teacher, coach and administrator at the school, and Del Merrill, a former coach, administrator and president of the the school.

Guerrette (Presque Isle HS) finished her basketball career winning both North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. In 105 games Guerrette scored 1,333 points and captained her team to a first-ever NCAA playoff win. She was named to the NAC All-Academic team twice.

Guerrette is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy.

John Smith (Starr's Mills HS, GA) is in his senior year at Husson and already owns many of the school's rushing records with over 5,000 yards and over 50 touchdowns. He is two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year Award winner.

Smith and his Eagles team play their third game of the year on Saturday vs Western New England.

Smith is pursuing a degee in Psychology.
