After months of planning. a referendum vote in RSU 22 towns and then weeks of designing, the multi-purpose athletic field at Hampden Academy is getting a facelift just in time for the fall sports season.

The 14-year-old turf and lights have been replaced thanks to a $850,000 bond voters approved back in February.

Crews are laying down the new carpet this week and the new lights go up later in the week.

Features of the new field include a two-tone green look and the soccer field will now play to 110 yards long.

Athletic director Fred Lower says if all goes well over the next few days the field wil be ready to go when the MPA 'hands-off' two week period ends and fall sports begin on August 13th.

Football, soccer, field hockey and softball teams from Hampden call the field home. The complex also hosts regional and state championship events each year.
