Hampden Academy is one win away from winning another gold ball this winter after the unified team won the first ever Eastern Maine Championship 44-36 over Oceanside.As a result of the win, the Broncos will now play for the state championship and a gold ball Thursday against Lisbon. The game will tip-off at 6pm from Lewiston High School/

This is the first year of this division of basketball and is sponsored by the  Maine Principals Association as a varsity sport. Unified teams are co-ed with the majority of its team made up of students with developmental disabilities, and a few without disabilities. In this first season 18 schools participated, a number that will likely swell to nearly 40 next season according to MPA Executive Director Dick Durost.
