The Boston Red Sox suffered two losses on Friday. First the game 3-2 to the Yankees and second their catcher Ryan Hanigan with a fractured finger.Hanigan suffered the broken finger on a pitch that hit Mark Teixeira and deflected down to hit Hanigan's throwing hand. After the game Manager John Farrell said he would have surgery to repair the damage and miss significant time. To fill his void on the roster the team is expected to call up Blake Swihart from Pawtucket.

As for the game the Sox lost a pitchers duel as Alex Rodriguez came to the plate as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning and on a 3-0 pitch deposited the ball over the left field wall to provide the winning run. The homerun is the 660th in A-Rods career which ties him with Willie Mays on the all-time homerun list.

The wins puts the Yankees two games ahead of Boston in the AL East standings heading into today's game. Wade Mile will try to get on track as he gets the start for the Sox.
