Several key performances led the Boston Red Sox to a 7-0 shutout over the Baltimore Orioles as the Sox opened their final home series of the season.David Ortiz got the job done at the plate by collecting 3 hits and driving in 3 runs. All 3 of Papi's hits were doubles as the Sox DH raised his average to .270 on the season. Brock Holt added 2 hits and 2rbi.

Rich Hill continues to dazzle on the mound and continued to impress on Friday by pitching a complete game 2-hitter while striking out 10. Hill began the season playing independent league baseball before the Red Sox picked him up. Hill has started three games for Boston and has struck out 10 batters in each game and has an ERA of 1.17.

Friday's game also ended in dramatic fashion as Mookie Betts took a home run away form Chris Davis by reaching into the Red Sox bullpen and pulling the ball back to end the game.

Game 2 of the series takes place this evening and Boston will send Craig Breslow to the mound to make his first career start.
