Joe Bertagna was already the longest serving commissioner in Hockey East Association history and now he gets a two year extension.

The new deal keeps Bertagna as commish through the 2016-2017 season. That means 20 years at the helm of Hockey East and 35 years as a college conference administrator.

Hockey East teams have won six national titles while Bertagna has been commissioner. The league also has added regional and national television deals under him. And, the first outdoor college hockey games in the east (Fenway Park) was played under his watch.

HEA includes UMaine, UNH, BC, BU, Merrimack. UMass Lowell, UVM, Northeastern, Providence, UMass, UConn and Notre Dame.

Bertagna is a former goalie at Harvard in the 1970's.
