Day 3 of the Senior League World Series saw the host team Old Town suffer its first loss while Italy and Curacao had their tournament come to an end in elimination games.

Ohio scored two in the fourth, three in the fifth, four in the sixth, and four more in the seventh to bury the SLWS hosts, 13-2.

Batters 1-through-5 in Ohio's lineup recorded all 15 of the team's hits and drove in 14-of-15 runs on the night.

Mitch Massaro led the way, going 4-for-5 with a triple, six RBI and four runs, while Tyson Gingerich reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Massaro is now batting .750 with two doubles, a triple, six RBI, and six runs through two SLWS games.

Starting pitcher, Bryan Yoder, allowed just three hits over 5.2 scoreless innings for Ohio and added three hits and three RBI at the plate.

Old Town starter, Dana Ouellette, was tagged with the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs in 5.1 innings. Ryan Hoogterp came in relief and was charged with three runs in 0.2 innings of work.

Hoogterp went 2-for-3 at the dish, but his teammates went a combined 3-for-21 in the contest.

Old Town will next play Saipan, Wednesday (8/5) at 5 p.m. Ohio advances straight to Thursday's semi-final at 8 p.m. where they will play the winner of Old Town vs. Saipan, setting up a possible rematch with the host team.

 

Pennsylvania Halts Defending Champ's Momentum

Pennsylvania moved to 2-0 in the SLWS with a 5-1 win over the defending champions from Texas.

Nick DeLucas went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and Randy Meehl added two RBI's to pace Pennsylvania.

Dan Howald spread one run over 6.2 innings on the mound, only missing on the complete game due to pitch count limitations.

William James went 2-for-4 in the losing effort for Texas, who saw the middle of their lineup go a combined 0-for-10.

Pennsylvania becomes the first team into the semi-final round where they will play either Texas or Virginia, Thursday (8/6) at 5 p.m. The Texas vs. Virginia game will take place Wednesday (8/5) at 8 p.m.

 

Saipan Cruise Past Error-Prone Italy

Saipan began their climb out of the loser's bracket with an 8-4 victory over Italy, eliminating the Italians from the SLWS.

Saipan had four players record multi-hit games, with Anthony Aqualto, 2-for-3 with 2-RBI, and Roke Tenorio, 2-for-4 with an RBI, leading the way.

Italy committed five errors in the field and starting pitcher, Leonardo Bulfone, failed to make it through the second, allowing six hits, five runs, and departing after 1.1 innings.

Saipan advances to play the loser of Old Town vs. Ohio, Wednesday (8/4) at 5 p.m. Italy exits the tournament with a 1-2 record after losing twice to Saipan.

 

Seven Run First Paces Virginia Past Curacao

Virginia put a seven spot of the board in the bottom of the first and never looked back, knocking Curacao from the SLWS with a 9-6 win.

Carson Arquin led the way for the South-East reps, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Colton Lee started the game for Virginia and allowed one run over 3.1 innings.

Curacao rallied for five runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-6, but that's as close as they would come. Siamari Boekhoudt and Ralison Bentura each contributed two RBI's at the top of Curacao's lineup, while Rodolfo Rodriguez pitched five three-hit innings in relief.

Virginia moves on to play the loser of Texas vs. Pennsylvania, Wednesday (8/5) at 8 p.m. Curacao exits the tournament with a record of 1-2 in their three games.
