Former UMaine goaltender Jimmy Howard logged a shutout in a 3-0 victory against Italy in the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship on Wednesday.

Howard picked up his second win of the tournament with the win as the USA National Team has three wins to just one loss in the tournament.  The former Black Bear goalie also picked up a win versus Sweden earlier in the week.

Howard just recently finished his 11th season in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and posted a record of 10-11-1 with a 2.10 goals against average in 2016-17.

Also on the US roster are Boston Bruins prospects Charlie McAvoy and Anders Bjork.  The event in Germany will continue on Saturday when the US will face Latvia, followed by Slovakia on Sunday and Russia on May 16th.
