Longtime high school basketball boys basketball coach Jamie Russell has been hired as the new Central High School girls basketball coach and Tim Thornton has been hired as new boys basketball coach at Old Town.

Jamie Russell has coached boys teams at Penobscot Valley HS in Howland, Central HS in Corinth and most recently at PCHS in Guilford, racking up over 300 wins. He has been a longtime teacher at Central.

He takes over the coaching reigns from Diane Rollins who led the Lady Devils to a 13-6 and a #6 seed in Class B last season.

Under the new classification numbers, Central will play in Class C North for the next two years.

At Old Town High School, Tim Thornton has been hired as new boys hoops coach. He takes over the program from Brian McDormand.

Thornton has been a coach at Hermon High School and most recently an assistant coach at Brewer High School where is he a a social studies teacher.

Old Town HS athletic director Brett Hoogterp tells me Thornton will be coach only for the Coyotes.

The Old Town boys team finished 5-13 in Class B last season. The Coyotes won the state title in 2014.
