For the first time since 1991 the Northeastern Huskies are headed to the NCAA tournament. Former Maine high school standout and UMaine coach Chris Markwood is part of their success.

Markwood joined coach Bill Coen's staff over the summer as an assistant. The Huskies beat William&Mary last night 72-61 to win their first ever CAA title and first NCAA bid in nearly a quarter of a century.

Markwood starred at South Portland HS and was 2000 Mr Basketball Award winner. After attending Notre Dame, he transferred to UMaine for his final two years of college ball.

He had been an assistant at UMaine and Vermont before joining the staff at Northeastern.
