Husson Softball Wins NAC Opener

The Husson softball team opened the North Atlantic Conference tournament beating Johnson State 8-0.The Eagles were led by by Kayla Merrill who hit a 3-run homer and 2-run triple. Senior pitcher Amanda Ryan earned her 10th win of the season allowing just one hit and striking out 7. Husson will next play Saturday morning at 10am.

The conference also announced their post season awards for baseball and softball with the Eagles claiming the top awards.

Dylan Foster is the Player of the Year after batting .412 with 18 rbi and 13 stolen bases. His teammate Tim Nasson is the Pitcher of the Year with a 5-0 record and a 0.84 era.

Foster and Nasson were also named the all-conference first team along with first baseman J.T. Whitten and second baseman Brandon Gendreau.

Husson catcher Casey Lopes

Kayla Merrill is the softball Player of the Year after leading the conference in almost every offensive and pitching category. Merrill batted .422 with 8 homeruns and 40 rbi's. She also 12-3 as a pitcher with a 2.29 era, 66 strikeouts and 11 walks. Freshman catcher Casey Lopes is the Rookie of the Year. Lopes hit .387 with 26 rbi's.
