The colder than average weather has not allowed for ice to leave the local streams and rivers which has now caused the postponement of Saturday's St. George race. The event that marks the beginning of the canoe and kayak racing season will now run on Saturday April 4. Race Director Dale Cross of the Waldo County YMCA was on the Morning Pitch show and told Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket that the change could disrupt the Passagassawakeag race that was scheduled for the same day. One option is to run the St. George in the morning and the "Passy" in the afternoon.

The races are the first two on the schedule of the Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization that runs through early June.
