The Arizona Cardinals missed a last minute field goal and that preserved a 23-21 win for the New England Patriots in Sunday night's season opener. It makes a winner of QB Jimmy Garoppolo who is filling in for suspended Tom Brady.

It's a big win for many reasons - the Jimmy G/Brady thing. Rob Gronkowski did not play because of injury. The Cardinals are supposed to be one of the best teams in the NFC and they were at home.

Garoppolo went 24-for-33 for 264 yards and a TD. Trailing 21-20, he led the Pats down the field in the fourth quarter to set up the Steven Gostkowski game winning field goal.

LeGarrette Blount led the ground game with 70 rushing yards. Julian Edelman had seven catches for 66 yards. Gostkowski hit three field goals.

The Patriots return to Foxboro for next week's game vs Miami. It is a 1pm kickoff.
