Claude Julien has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Boston Bruins as announced on Tuesday morning.

Julien had been at the helm for 10 seasons and compiled a 419-246-96 in his tenure.  He also led the Bs to a Stanley Cup during the 2010-11 season.  Along with the championship, Boston had made the playoffs in seven of the past nine years that Julien had been coach.  He was the longest serving NHL head coach with his current franchise before his removal Tuesday.

Assistant Coach Bruce Cassidy has been named the interim head coach by the team to take over for Julien.  This will be Cassidy's second time serving as the head coach of a NHL team, as he served in the same role with the Washington Capitols.

Julien becomes the second long-serving head coach to be fired since the start of the 2017 calendar year, as Jack Capuano was also let go by the New York Islanders in January.

Boston currently sits with a 26-23-6 record overall which puts them fourth in the Atlantic Division and ninth in the Eastern Conference.  A press conference is set for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
