For a second straight night the Red Sox bullpen gave up runs after a 26+ innings streak of scoreless work and the KC Royals beat the Sox 4-2.

Hector Velazquez worked a pretty good 5.1 innings in the starter role but Brad Boyer coughed up two runs in the 7th inning. The big hit was a triple by Drew Butera that Jackie Bradley Jr. made a dive for and a follow up single by KC resulted in the game winning run.

The Sox had chances late in the game, leaving the bases loaded in the 8th inning and could not score Andrew Benintendi after he hit a triple in the 9th.

The defeat drops the Sox to 39-31 with Chris Sale pitching tonight.
