Record breaking thrower Jake Koffman from Orono High School is Maine' Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

Koffman, who will compete at Stanford University in the fall, won the Class C shot put and discus and helped his Red Riots team to the state championship.

He won the discus and finished second in the shot put at the New England Outdoor Championships.

Koffman has maintained an 'A' average in the classroom and has volunteered locally with Special Olympics and area youth sports programs.

As part of a new program offered by 'Gatorade Play It Forward', a $1,000 Gatorade donation goes to a sport-based organization of Jake's choosing.

NOTE: Cheverus High School freshman runner Emma Gallant is Maine's Gatorade Track & Field Girls Athlete of the Year. She won the 100m and 200m events at the Class A state meet. She went on to win the 200m at the New England Championships.
