Orono High School's Jake Koffman finished in fourth place during the high school boys' discus competition in the Penn Relays on Friday afternoon.

Brewer’s Austin Lufkin and Orono’s Koffman were both scheduled to compete throwing in the discus championship during the three-day event that runs through Saturday.

Koffman finished in fourth place with a throw of 58.31m and was competing with throwers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ontario, Virginia, and Jamaica.  Roje Stona of Jamaica finished first overall with a distance of 64.86m.  Lufkin, though scheduled to compete, did not register a throw or finish among the top 18 participants.

Koffman who throws for the Red Riots has already committed to continue his track & field career at Stanford starting in the fall and holds the state discus record that he set at 109 feet and nine inches last year.

Lufkin also set records over the winter during indoor track competitions as he launched a new mark for shot put with a throw of 60 feet and two inches this winter.  The senior will be heading to Wofford this fall to also continue his athletic career, as he received a full scholarship to play FCS football.
