The Boston Bruins have signed former St Louis Blues Captain David Backes to a five-year, $30 million deal.

The 32-year old center had 21 goals and 45 total points in the 2015-16 season and helped lead the Blues in the playoffs with seven goals in 20 games.  Backes had been the Blues' captain for the past five seasons and is said to be a big, tough forward.

Boston also resigned John-Michael Liles who was acquired at the trade deadline this past season from the Carolina Hurricanes.  The is reported to be for one year at $2 million.

The Boston Bruins and defenseman Torey Krug have agreed to a four year contract extension worth a reported $21 million.

The 24-year-old defenseman played in 81 games during the 2015-16 season and scored four goals and added 40 assists for the Bruins.  In 241 games he has a total of 30 goals and a +/- of 39.  Krug signed with the Boston Bruins after his 2011-12 season with the Michigan State Spartans and was an undrafted free agent.

The Bruins also bought out the contract of Dennis Seidenberg, making him a free agent.
