The Lake Region Lakers ran away from the Ellsworth Eagles in the second half at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor to claim the Class B title and the second gold ball of Friday night.

The Lakers were tenacious on both ends of the floor, building a double-digit lead early in the third quarter and never looking back on their way to a 63-47 win over the Eagles.

It is the first state title for the Lakers since 1985.

The Lakers held a four-point lead at the half, but by the end of the third quarter, they scored 16 unanswered points and built the lead to 46-29.

Jack Lesure and Nate Smith led the Lakers with 14 points each. Marcus Devoe had 12 points.

Bruce St. Peter led the Eagles with 15 points. Nick Bagley added nine points.

Ellsworth advanced to the state final after claiming the North crown with a 52-34 win over Orono. South champs Lake Region advanced to the finals with a 53-43 win over Yarmouth.
